I am deeply concerned about the impending strike. It seems that the essential right to freedom of speech is being threatened by elements proposed in the existing contract. This is absolutely unacceptable for an academic institution. I ask the administration to act with integrity and ensure that faculty can continue teaching with the freedom we espouse as a society. This is a publicly funded institution and it is dangerous to let private interests influence what are "acceptable" ideas and activities. For those parents and interested parties who agree with this outlook, it would be great to show our support to the faculty. A letter written by the Canadian Federation of Students in support of the Faculty eloquently describes the issues: http://www.uwofa.ca/@storage/files/documents/328/2010.10.28uwofasupport.pdf
